Canberra...

Or Cantberra as it has also been known...

Here's that ultra dodgy video as promised...full of useless facts and possible facts. And wind noise.

It's hard to get an exact correlation, but it's more like your Capitol Building than the White House. Kinda.

It is a very cool building, lots of architectural touches that are linked to the Australian landscape amongst the bold things like that flagpole.

And Canberra is around 3 hrs from Sydney.

Visited during our Bicentennial year and had a wander round the 'New' Parliament House. (that is a BIG flagpole!) i thought Canberra was a nice place to visit but i wouldn't like to live there! ;-)

Then again, how many of our 300 or so Federal representatives live their either??

Yeah - Parliament House is closer to the Capitol (US) building while 'The Lodge' in Sydney would be closer to the White House. Does BO spend much time each day addressing the house of reps, i wonder?

The correlation (Physically and politically) between Sydney and Canberra is almost exactly that between New York and Washington DC - interesting huh?

Except of course, The Lodge is the residence in Canberra.

Kirribilli House is the PMs residence in Sydney.

And I'd never noticed how delightful Barack's initials were until you wrote them just there, love.... :)

I'd never thought about the Syd/Can vs NYC/DC thing...though I do find it interesting that the place chosen for Canberra was so much closer to Sydney than Melbourne. I guess a capital city on top of the Snowy Mountains was going to be a bit of a stretch logistically.
