Some more shots from our day in New York on Monday, with plenty of Chanceton making the most of his first - and likely last - outing in the Big Apple.
Hopefully his brothers can get a look around someday too!
We were avoiding the really touristy things, but ended up on top of the Empire State Building anyway - not least to keep my "at least once per decade" ascension record in tact for the third consecutive decade. Ha!
Our last day in the US after an amazing 2 months was in this amazing city.
We decided we didn't want to rush all over - we've both spent time here before, with me at almost 6 weeks total - so we decided to do some cool stuff in the Village districts. Mainly involving food.
Here's some random snaps from the first part of the day.
We're in Brian's hometown for the weekend, and just like everywhere else we've been in Oregon, it's beautiful. Of course.
To satisfy both my curiosity and my mountain goat tendencies, I went walking up the nearest steep hill this afternoon. I was kinda disappointed to come across the sign in the first picture, but Brian told me later that there's another path I can take to keep going higher. So hopefully the weather is as beautiful tomorrow so I can find out.
We arrived in Northern Ireland on Wednesday night, spent 13 hours in Belfast on Thursday doing LOTS of stuff from the logistical to the fun, all the while enjoying the amazing sunny weather.
Friday was always going to be a little manic since along with needing to do my first full day's work from home, I'd also decided to take part in Joshua White's third #50Pic challenge. These are always fun, and as we are now in a totally new location it seemed a good chance to take some to show off Carrick (as it's known here) to our friends and family.
All these were taken within a mile of where we're living, a good number actually in the house, and quite a few on our walk to the supermarket.
In between all of this, I managed to work a 12 hour day between 5:30 and 23:00 - but because it was broken up by "life", it didn't feel anywhere near that long. I might be trying to do more of this kind of work/life balance methinks.
All pics were taken on my iPhone, and apart from one, edited using iPhoto. I was gonna do it on my phone using the various apps I have on there, but I accidentally transferred them all to my Mac & deleted them from the phone...and couldn't be bothered transferring them back. And because iPhoto is v.average in the editing department, so is the editing that's been done.
Barring further volcanos, or ongoing problems with our beloved kitty Maebh (more later), we're leaving in 7 days.
But first, some exceptionally poor pics from our farewell party thingy last weekend. In case I'd not mentioned how this worked, everyone had to bring everything (food, cutlery, seating) and then leave with random bits of our house as they left too...with anything left over in the back room going to charity. Our friends did us proud and cleared us out :)
Meanwhile, poor Maebh hasn't been coping well with the stress of everything and has become ill, and we're not really sure what it is. She shows signs of improvement, but then reverts back to not eating. And it's common for cats to go into starvation mode when they're ill, but that doesn't help.
So this morning we're going back to the vet for the third time in the week since our delayed departure, likely for blood tests to check if there is anything really wrong or if she's just throwing the ultimate kitty tantrum and needs to be forcefed.
As always, we covet your prayers during this unexpectedly stressful time.
It only just occurred to me as we stepped onto the beach at Austinmer that this is officially the last weekend of summer, and our last Australian summer.
I won't pretend that either of us are huge fans of summer, which is no doubt partly due to it being the busiest time of year for me professionally, but also because we prefer cooler weather.
Regardless, Australian beaches are wonderful, and I will miss them.
Note: all these photos are raw & direct from the mediocre iPhone camera. Usually they'd need some processing to make them look appealing, but the day was so glorious even the iPhone camera couldn't stuff them up.
An important step in the process was confirmed today with the email in the first picture.
YAY!
The email was received while I was officially "in China" getting visas for my staff to go there for the work we're doing at World Expo in April, and the emotion was visible as the consulate staff wondered aloud what was going on :)
But my favourite reaction so far is found in the second picture. I love my friends.
